Halley, the iconic lamp designed by Richard Sapper for Stilnovo, celebrates 20 years since its creation with a new photographic campaign by Mattia Balsamini, under the artistic direction of Russo Sgarbossa. This tribute captures its dynamic and timeless essence through images inspired by the movement of celestial bodies, evoking the origin of its very name: the famous comet.
Created in 2005, Halley was one of the first task lamps to harness the potential of LED technology, featuring a fluid design capable of moving freely through space thanks to six 360° joints. Its anodized aluminum body and zamak base strike the perfect balance between lightness and solidity, allowing the lamp head to glide like a celestial body, providing precise illumination. The new version integrates a sophisticated proximity dimmer, enabling users to turn the light on or off and adjust its intensity with a simple gesture.
This anniversary campaign explores the harmony between engineering and poetry, highlighting Halley’s ability to remain contemporary even two decades after its debut. For Cornelia and Carola Sapper, daughters of the designer, Halley represents “dynamic elegance and technological progress,” seamlessly adapting to both workspaces and domestic environments.
With its compact dimensions and finishes in natural aluminum or matte black lacquer, Halley continues to be an icon of lighting design, blending past and future into an object that is both functional and sculptural. It stands as a symbol of Stilnovo’s tradition, a company that, since 1946, has defined Italian design by collaborating with great masters and continues to renew its commitment today with the support of Linea Light Group, keeping alive the dialogue between history and innovation.
Halley is not just a lamp, it is a statement of style: an object designed to transcend time, just like the comet from which it takes its name.
